What is a smoke alarm?
A smoke alarm is a device designed to detect smoke or fire and alert occupants with an audible alarm.
What are the smoke alarm requirements?
In England: A smoke alarm must be installed on every storey of a property that contains a room used wholly or partly as living accommodation.
In Wales: Mains-wired, interlinked smoke alarms are required on every floor of the property.
How do I record the placement and testing of alarms?
-
Inventory report: Document the locations of the alarms on each floor and note that they have been tested.
-
Fire risk assessment: Conduct a Fire Risk Assessment to record the condition of the alarms and receive recommendations for any improvements.
-
Safety certificates: We recommend using Safe2rent for property safety certificates. Visit Safe2rent for more details.
